Issue When Logging In

When i log in this error message shows up every time and it's really annoying on a day old netbook.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do or what i will need to re-install to fix it?

I use ccleaner to clean some stuff up and it happened right after this.

Also this is on an Asus Eee PC 1018P.

Thanks!

Download and run ccleaner first to see if that will get rid of it, which I doubt it will. Then go to c:\windows\tasks and delete the asus isetup task if listed. Or you can use the msconfig utility to disable the program from running at bootup.

ccleaner is what originally created the problem, would a system restore probably fix the problem?

otherwise i wasn't able to to find the program in the startup files at all or in the user files as stated above

OK, do this then.

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

You will need to right click on that icon and click on run as. If the run as option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key while right clicking on the icon to get it to appear.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

When the hijackthis log appears in a notepad file, click on the edit menu, click select all, then click on the edit menu again and click on copy. Come back to your reply and right click on your mouse and click on paste.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces

When the Notepad file opens, it opens as a blank file.

I tried repairing 3 files and it didn't work, there is nothing in any scans that have to do with AsusSetup in anything that I have searched.

With this file missing, the netbook continues to boot fine.

Finally got it to work:

rerun hijackthis and place a check next to this entry.

THen click on fix checked and then reboot and see if you still get the message pop up.

I did that and it still didn't work. I think it must have just 'fixed' the file. I did another run and here is what I got this time, looks pretty similar.

Nope, you didn't fix it, the liveupdate program still runs at bootup. Do this instead.

click on start, in the search box, type msconfig and hit enter. when the system configuration utilty pops up, click on the startup tab. find the entry for the asus liveupdate program and uncheck it.

it's not there, this is what I see when I go to that. The only other ones below that are synaptics.

Untitled-1.jpg

The ASUS files are:

LiveUpdate
SuperHybridEngine
HotKeyMon
HotKeyService

uncheck live update. There are 4 asus sender programs listed. You may have to just reinstall the software/drivers.

Still nothing, I just tried again, I think I'll just have to go for a reimage in the morning if the External DVD drive is here.

Thanks for your help!
