Hello, I'm not sure if this is where this thread should be posted, but I've looked all over the internet and can't find a solution to this problem so I'm trying this.
First my hardware:
HP Pavillion DV7 Notebook
Processor: AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M500 2.20 GHz
Installed Memory:4.00 GB (3.75 GB Usable)
Windows 7 64 Bit Operating System
Video Card: AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200
Video Ram: 1.9GB
Other info available on request.
Problem:
I enjoy playing Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 1, Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, and Soulstorm. Also, I play Medieval II: Total War. I have checked online for system requirements and not only does my computer meet the minimum standards, but it also meets the recommended standards. In both of these games the 3D environment seems to lockup my computer. Especially in Dark Crusade, Soulstorm, and Medieval II. I can start the game and campaigns just fine, but anytime I go to a battlefield, the entire computer locks up and goes to a black screen. I cannot Alt+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Alt+F4, or anything else. It is just a black screen with zero response from the computer. I thought at first this was an overheating issue so I cleaned out my fan and all the vents with compressed air (while the computer was apart) taking special care to make sure there wasn't any dust or obstruction. I also bought a fan and I only run my computer in 65-70 degree Farenheit room temperature. I downloaded a program though i cannot remember now what it was called, to monitor internal temperature and during these crashes the temp does not rise about 140 degrees farenheit. I really doubt this is an overheating issue at this point. I then decided it was a driver issue with my video card, but I have downloaded all possible and up to date drivers and it has not helped. As I said before, I know of no solutions to this problem.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Does anyone know a solution?
Am I just beating my head against a wall trying to play games that are simply incompatible with windows 7 64bit?
