It died :( Help!!

So I've come to the conclusion my video card quit on me. Was running a Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 and after a few random restarts rebooted with some blue choppy lines down the screen. I tried re-installing drivers before swapping with my brother video card (same one) it booted fine. I guess where I'm at is I want to replace it with something. Don't want to drop a ton of money in to it. I'm basically only playing WoW still (somehow, don't ask) and that's it for the most part.

System currently as follows:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe MB
Intel Duo E6750
Corsair XMS2 4G (2 x 2g) (XP reads as 3.12GB)
Sea sonic 550W PS

Looking to buy from NCIX I figure, looking at a 4870 or around that price range. Was currently wondering about PSU and if it needs to be upgraded. 18A 12V rails don't seem to be keeping up with the almost 30A requirments I saw from some cards I was quickly checking the specs for. I'm also considering the fact I be upgrading my CPU and Mobo if needed in a year or so, so I'd definitely look into options that won't be completely obsolete at that point. Thanks for any help in advance,

Ian

with that power supply the best you can go with is a 4830, because you need more amps on the +12v rail for a better card. that means a new PSU.

Try the oven Bake method. Might fix it might not.

and if you need a new gpu let me know i got 2 right up your alley

Are you sure your card isnt under warranty? If not, a 4850 or GTS250 would do nicely, depending on your budget.

Card is definitely out out warranty. It's an evga but I didn't register it right away so they only offer one year instead of their limited lifetime. Some time between now and Christmas I'll need to pick up what will most likely turn into a GPU and PSU. With the thought of upgrading the rest of the system middle or later next year, what should I be looking at so I'm not buying twice or regretting anything.

WHAT!?

I run an 8800GTX on a Corsair HX520W. Corsair is a rebrand of a Seasonic, and my Corsair has specs in the same region as that Seasonic. You better go back to the drawing board on that one dude.

4870s have become pretty cheap here in the past few months. The last I checked, it was about $175... Your PSU should be fine. I had an instructor running a 4870 on an off-brand 450W PSU, and I am sure the amperage was low on it.
