Hello. I have been working on a laptop of mine that has basically been through the ringer. Our newest issue is that I do not believe my motherboard is receiving any power. I was making progress on the repairs of this unfortunate PC when I decided to clean the connected between the hard drive and the motherboard. (Boy, that was a mistake!) See, one of the screws that holds the hard drive onto the board is stripped, so I was advised to pour some high concentration rubbing alcohol onto the connection.. which I have done before and it was fine. I'm not sure if I messed something up while trying to remove the screw, but now when you plug the AC adapter into the computer nothing lights up, and, of course, nothing happens when you put the battery in it. I know what this probably means - I shorted a circuit or some unfortunate happening. What I want to know is what should I do next? Now listen, I have been told 9876547875434567 times that the computer is just dead and I should throw it away and move on, but I do not want to. This is a fun, spare time project. If there is any possible way to fix it, I want to try. And hey, if I mess it up more.. who cares? It is dead right now anyway. So please, only optimistic answers! (:

Awesome! Thanks so much! Any advice on where to buy circuits? I have a friend who can install them which may work out quite favorably.

"Circuit diagram" not circuit.type in your exact model name & number in google and type circuit diagram after it.You may be lucky enough to find it free.Look for a pdf manual for your model also, they are included in the manuals sometimes. You need to pick a starting point on the board & keep following the paths the circuit diagram shows, using a multimeter.Doing this, you will find out where the short(s) are.Not a fix,but you will at least know where the shorts so you can work on that area.I do not know how to fix shorts on pcb boards yet.It is very time consuming & their is always a chance its just not fixable.Quickest way to check is looking for black(burnt) or white powder looking marks & swelled up parts.

Thank you so much. I am happy to admit that after scrubbing all the components with rubbing alcohol AGAIN, and letting it rest, it started up today. Still having issues, but no power issues.
