It's funny how technology changes.

So I was just messing around on AnandTech comparing some newer i3 2nd gens to the old, but strong Core 2 Quad Yorkfields.

At one point the Core 2 Quad Yorkfield Q9650 Quad Core processor was the best processor you could purchase.

Now.

Compare it to today's i3-2100 Dual Core processor and see the results.

Take in mind, of course multiple threaded applications will perform better on the Quad Core, but look at the gaming comparisons between the two.

I just found these results funny, nothing to start a rage war over, just a little interesting info.

newegg didn't have the 9650, but the 300 dollar 9550 quad core only equals the 120 dollar dual core i3-2100, and then ivy bridge which will be out in june is supposed to be ~10%+ faster and is going to be lower power too on the 22nm die, now that's gonna be a nice comparison.

I know it's funny how the list price for the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 was $1000 back in 2007, then only a year later it would get smoked by a Core i7 920, a $200 CPU. I did a comparison between an i3-2100 and a Core 2 Extreme QX9770, baring in mind the QX9770 was selling for $1400 back in the day, and now the i3-2100 is selling for $124.99, I think the results are quite interesting http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/48?vs=289

What i find most strange is unlike any other line of products, the new version comes out and the price of the previous version drops.

But with computer components just now, you can buy 1155 socket gear cheaper than older sockets, you can buy ddr3 memory for way cheaper than ddr2.

The only area is does not seem to happen is hard drives, usually sata 3 gear is more expensive than sata 2
