So I was just messing around on AnandTech comparing some newer i3 2nd gens to the old, but strong Core 2 Quad Yorkfields.
At one point the Core 2 Quad Yorkfield Q9650 Quad Core processor was the best processor you could purchase.
Now.
Compare it to today's i3-2100 Dual Core processor and see the results.

Take in mind, of course multiple threaded applications will perform better on the Quad Core, but look at the gaming comparisons between the two.
I just found these results funny, nothing to start a rage war over, just a little interesting info.
