It's time to get a laptop.

Sooo its time for me to get a laptop, finally. I'm really picky so I'm having a really hard time choosing.*
* So here's my scope:
Budget: hopefully around 1,000. With tax and shipping I'm willing to spend 1,100 or a bit more if I really like the laptop.
Specs:i7, 8gb ram, a good graphic card to play new games with high settings and good fps, full HD1080p res, decent battery life

I plan to play games like battlefield 3,guild wars 2,rift, etc.* I'll do video editing with HD footage.

I've noticed quite a few gaming laptops have just what I want except the battery life is terrible.

I want something slick looking. So far from the feel, I don't like HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony.* I'm most interested in an Asus. Possibly a Samsung, and some Lenovo I like.

I know I'm pretty specific so it might be hard..

Oh! One last question.* Would it be worth investing a bit more to get just what I want? The only thing about that is technology is constantly improving so even if I pay a bit more will it just get out dated quickly?
* Any recommendations, suggestions, tips, nuggets of knowledge would be awesome. I don't know too much about laptops so please feel free to say whatever.

Thanks for reading :)

dang that's a good laptop. this laptop also has bad battery life? I was considering a non gaming laptop just because I was hoping for better battery life.

Around 2 hours, I think getting a desktop for $800 and a kindle fire is a good idea (or blackberry playbook!), it would be a better desktop than the laptop, plus cheaper.

Let me ask you this. Do you actually have a requirement for portability? If not you (for your needs) a desktop would absolutely spank a laptop in performance for that budget.

actually the portability of a laptop is something I really need.. and definitely a laptop over a tablet. its going to be really hard to find one with the specs I'm looking for?

personally, I know for sure I want a windows laptop instead of Mac.

so what about what I mentioned on investing now on the perfect laptop even though technology always get dated so quickly, or settling with just something good just not perfect. what's everyone's opinion?

There are more laptop choices than ever. We'll identify and discuss the available options--including screen size, weight, battery life, and communications ports.
