iTunes Damaged Library

Hi this is my first post so if I'm doing something wrong please let me know - thanks!

Sometimes when I try and open up iTunes it says that my library (.itl) is damaged.
So it continues to open up itunes, but all my playlists and songs I've added in the last month have been removed.
The songs themselves are still saved on my PC, so it's not a major problem but it's happening more and more frequently (about twice a week now).
Does anyone know if it's a common problem or if there's a permanent way to stop it?

Thanks,
JonPD

The best thing to do there is simply go for the latest version to see that replace the current one. The current copy is obviously now getting buggy on you there. That's really the best way to take care of it. The latest 7.6 version is found at http://www.apple.com/downloads/

Due to WMP 11 now being worthless I ended up with the latest ITunes after trying out an endless amount of other players for audio. Being a quick download and rather self contained program there are no real repair methods available but seeing a new copy put on. When downloading again save the download to a folder to have onhand.

Doesn't work

I downloaded it again and reinstalled it - but just now the same sign came up saying my library was damaged.
Thanks for those answers - but does anyone know another way to fix it?

Instead of allowing ITunes to automatically add all files in all at once try making up individual play lists. Once you hit one or more corrupted files you'll know what group to look in. You can also try running the same files with a different player.
