Ah Limewire yes, good but not enough; Limewire isn't the 'absolute' source for the best conductions for:e.g. Carmen, La Traviata, Beethoven's Ninth etc. So iTunes

And its illegal to download music from limewire ;)

but napster is a monthly fee service, meaning you can download all the songs you want for a monthly fee, but once you cancel your napster susbscription, the songs no longer work. Where with iTunes you download each song for a price, and you can keep it for as long as you want.

is napster actually legal? becuase its only £10 a month

yes it is legal, as i said in the above post, you pay a monthly fee, 10 for you, and you can download as many songs as you want. The catch is, if you decide to cancel your susbscription, then all the songs you previously downloaded will not work.

Only if you download copyrighted music :P and you could conveniently forget what music is copyrighted and what is not :D

This is another example of a good thread going bad...

Both iTunes and Napster are LEGAL ways to download music on the internet. Once again, the talk has turned from legal ways to illegal conversation.

It will stop.

Read the simple forum rules posted at the top of each forum section. The issue of copy written music and illegal downloading has been discussed an noisome almost every other week since this forum's inception. There are many threads on the topic. Discuss it there.

I only voted for iTunes because I made the mistake from purchasing music from there. I was young and foolish and I didn't realize that the file was locked and that you could only play it on an iPod for which you have to get another mortgage on the house to buy on :P.

Not necessarily, its originally made so that unsigned bands with NO record label could distriute their tracks, these are of course NOT copyrighted. Its only if you go off and download the number 1 in the charts that its illegal...

iTunes has a bigger song collection and is more convenient since you can keep the songs even if you unsubscribe; unlike Napster

if your looking for free songs (small collection) check out www.mp3spy.ru you can stream for free or buy each song for something like 5 cents.
I download the stream preview and record it with QuickTime and convert it into another format.

os dragon, you don't need to have an iPod to play the songs downloaded from iTunes. You can listen to them on anything that plays .m4a files or just burn them to a cd. The only problem with the files is that I think they can only be on played on five different computers.

oh and i would have to go with iTunes because i not into that subscription mess; i'd rather own the songs that i purchase rather than rent them.
