Ive lost 5 PDF'S on windows 7.

Hey guys,

I hope someone can direct my in a way to finding missing files on my windows 7 laptop. back in February / March I downloaded 5 PDF file's online using internet explorer directly to a new folder on my desktop.

I opened each file and they all opened fine and I don't know what I have done with them since.... I know I need them and wouldn't delete them so unless I have deleted them by mistake I have moved them somewhere else other than my desktop.

the file's downloaded where random names so I don't know what the file name's are. however each pdf has content which is my address / postcode so if I could search the whole of my computer using my postcode I may be able to find them.

Can anybody help me with what they recommended and what tools to use.

Open computer and in the search box type this ".pdf" without the quotes and hit enter, it will find all files that end in pdf.

Thanks for the reply I had already tried this and just tried it once again and scrolled through all the pdf's its found but I still cant find any of them :(

Instead of searching by FILE NAME,have you tryed using an advanced search also supported by Windows by actually writing a string (word/phrase) that is written IN the PDF file?
For example you would search for all files on the entire HDD which contain your address or postcode written as a string (plain text/word/phrase)...
You may need to configure the advanced options of the SEARCH to use this functionality.

If that doesn't find anything then you may have deleted those files.In that case try to use the tool which Johnb35 suggested or you can try my favorite tool for recovering deleted files called Pareto logic data recovery.It's not free though,but it never failed on me.

Thanks guys I will try the above. its absolutely bugging me, I know needed them so I wouldn't have deleted them on purpose but I remember sorting out my desktop moving files and folders here their and everywhere but in conjunction I deleted a lot of folders and files too.

The reason I delete so many things is because I use my laptop as a work laptop we deal pdf's scanned utility letter's for 1000's of customers and then they get uploaded to the server so I delete them from my computer.


doesn't help being the same format as the file am looking for it brings up so many results :(
