Java type virus?

It seems that we're getting a request to update from Java about every day. My wife said that she heard somewhere that a virus, posing as Java updates, can get on your computer and you really don't need the update, but it's a ploy to get into your system.

Does anyone know about this, and if it's true, how do you distinguish the virus message from the real thing?

I disagree. So you're saying using some unknown 3rd party updating tool for JAVA updates is better than going directly to JAVA website? Fail.

Yeah, unfortunately, thats not a good idea there. Just like driver updates, always go back to the manufacture for them.

Ninite is only really good for installing a bunch of things at once. Unfortunately it doesn't update well.

Seems like they release updates often, and seems they have 0days often. I would not use Java at all. Most people can live without it
