my computer gets really noisy, i believe it is coming from the fan at the back of the computer, how can i know for absolutely certain? It isn't always noisy, maybe the warmer the room the noisier? i can get a new power unit quite cheaply, or it could be the fan below
 
What is your hardware? It is very certain that your PSU gets too hot and as it controls the fan automatically it will speed it up when it needs to.

Write what GPU and what PSU you have got.
 
The fan on my power supply unit seems to not be working at all and the loud sound comes from the fan just below it. Should i replace the whole power supply unit?
 
ok so replace the whole PSU? Is it possible just to replace the PSU fan? I actually think it isnt the fan at the back of the case but the fan on the CPU which is making all the noise. Is it worth me unplugging it and taking it into the shop so the shop assistant can recommend a better fan?
 
Do you think that case fan or cpu fan (whichever one you decide is the problem) is malfunctioning or probably operating fine just is in your opinion a bit too loud? If its making anything other then a normal fan sound then the bearings could be wearing out or a wire could be touching the fan blades. If its operating fine just too loud then you can get fans with better bearings or you might be able to fit a larger fan in their that spins slower and hence quieter. Your motherboard could also be sensing high temperatures and spinning the fan on high.

If his PSU fan isn't spinning at all, though, then that's a major problem. Like a previous poster said: if a PSU fails it'll damage other components too! Don't take that risk!!!
 
Yeah, and dont go cheap on a power supply either. What sorta price range can you look at for a power supply unit?

Also, what size is the rear case fan?
