Juicy UPGRADE

My dear geek friends!

It's a beautiful mid-summer beach/camping/kitesurfing/notsurewhatelsetodo time, and definitely a time for an очередной (not sure how to convey this adjective in English) PC upgrade! :)

What I have now

MB
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 (2 PCI, 3 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM)
* PCI-E x16 rules! SATA3 not needed, it's ok. Though no DDR3 makes me sad :-(

CPU
Intel Q6600 2400 MHz
* I'm quite content with it

RAM
4 * GSkill 2GB DDR2-800
* 8GB total, not bad

HDD
SAMSUNG SSD 830 (238 GB)
* absolutely happy with 200 MB/s

Video
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (896 MB)
* proudly obtained 6+ years ago. Though been glithcing lately..

PSU
Antec BP550 Plus 550W (+12V * 22/22/25A)
* feels like a stretch..

What I have in mind

Video
let's fight over it.

PSU
let's fight over it once the videocard battle dusts settle :)

Thank you Oke, for a prompt response.

That GPU definitely looks grand. Added to cart.

Please ensure me that PSU is sufficient. How do you figure?

How (and why) do I overclock my 6600?

Because 384W on the 12V rail is enough for a 770. The rest of your machine is pretty low power consumption.

If you want to upgrade the PSU go ahead, a CX600 would be the best option for you.

In terms of overclocking the Q6600, you will get significantly better frame rates if done properly and temperatures well managed. http://archive.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=27&t=496

Yeah but what they're trying to say is that you are wasting money when a 600W PSU is all you'll ever need unless you want to get two GeForces in SLI, which your board doesn't support anyway.

If you want two cards you'll need to use CrossFire and get two Radeons, but unless you want to do that then there is no reason to get the 850W over a 600W.

And the GTX 660 is two years old. Get the GTX 760 or the Radeon R9 270X instead if you're looking at cards in that calibre. There is definitely no need to upgrade your PSU at all if you got one of those cards.
