Hey All.

I have a Powersupply, I wish too be able to get it too output power without having a motherboard attached.

I am Making a Lamp using a cold Cathode Ray, And i want to be able to have the lamp running without the power Supply.

Anyone know how to start a PSU?

It has a Switch on the back, but it does nothing. . .

Thanks.

Make sure that the switch on the back is set to the on position, then short circuit the green wire on the 20/24 pin ATX main with any black wire. If you're looking to use it permanently like that, you can even buy a little adaptor that plugs into the ATX main and shorts the connector, so you never have to worry about it falling out.

That did no good,

I cut a black wire from that cable up the top, its from the Floppy Drive Power.

Nah, It Works Fine :D

Here, I found a Easier way too do it:

Whoa, thats Complex.

Thanks Neway :D

Do you think it would Damage or Heat up the Motherboard having it going without a CPU?

Take a paper clip and stick one end in a green wire and the other end in a black ground wire, this should start the PSU without a motherboard.

You can jump start, but its really risky, I wouldn't recommend it. Try some of the older non ATX power supplies, they don't have a soft power switch.

I have a CPU for it.

I just didnt want to damage the CPU if i was going to have the CPU In the motherboard.

Do you think it would damage the CPU?

COOL! let me guess you are using the cd's from the pic from you bad cd's?

Yep, All the CD's you saw in this Thread

That motherboard and powersupply (not in pic) are being used

It actually looks really cool.

All i need to figure out, Is what to do for a Base. . .

Why do you want to use a PSU for power? That is HUGE!

The Motherboard and CPU are hidden under my desk in like an offshoot place.

When i push it all back, it fits quite Well :D
