Just a few more questions before i finalize everything..

So i've been researching and asking questions for quite some time, and i think that i've narrowed down everything to what i want, but there are a few questions. If i were to keep everything the same, and replace the E6750 processor with a Q6600, would i notice alot of bottlenecking and performance decrease? Or is a Q6600 a good match for the motherboard that i have? (I will not change the motherboard, if the Q6600 will not work with what i have listed, then i will simply stick with the E6750. Thanks :D)

[Processor] Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 - $211

[RAM] G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $129

[HDD] Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $65

[CDROM] SAMSUNG Black 18X DVD+R drive $29

[Case] NZXT Black Apollo case $70

[Motherboard] GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R $129

[Power Supply] Corsair 520w $99

[Graphics] EVGA 8800GTS 640MB - $370

Does everything else look okay and compatible? Mainly i'm wondering about the E6750 being replaced with the Q6600 though. thank you.

The Q6600 will work, but you should change the ram with that chip. Do you have to? No, but why have such a monster of a chip and limit it by the ram.

Just go with the e6750.

Yeah, i figure since i'm spending so much now i might as well wait for prices on Quads to drop a bit. Also, i have 3 120mm fans in the case as of right now, it's the max amount that the case will allow. Thanks for your input guys. :]

I personally have no experience with G. Skill memory but I know both the Core Two and the 8800GTS will overclock very nicely with cooling. Gigabyte makes very nice motherboards and I'm sure it could handle it.

I got that case and it is A++ quality, but the fans that come with it are only like 20-30CFM so i would recommend new ones and to put one up front.

His RAM looks good to me. G-skills a good brand, and most Oced or "high end" end RAM is a waste of money because the performance difference between the two are null.

Altogether looks great. I would personally go with the q6600 however.

Yeah, i like G.Skill, all around nice ram and looks nice also. :]

I was going to go with the Q6600, but then i figured that my birthday is coming up in about 2 months, and then christmas shortly thereafter, so if i really do need some upgrades, i think i'll just get them then when the price has dropped a bit more. :]

I like the case... people keep tossing around if its a good oc rig or not, do you plan on overclocking? the q6600 is definitely the better choice and gskills makes solid ram... check out corsair if you want to look around tho they make good products (that psu is great!)

The 320MB vs the 640MB is a whole other discussion, but since i'm going to be running my rig on a 22 inch widescreen, wouldn't the 640 be the better choice?

what resolution will you be running it at? do you know what monitor you're going to have and its natural resolution?

8800GTS 640MB is barely faster than 320MB version. 8800GTS 320MB has the better performance/price ratio

And don't be fooled by the specs of HD2900XT, it is barely better than 8800GTS in gaming....

And the 320MB can run games fine on 1680x1080

I would go with a cheaper c2d and overclock, such as an e63 or e64 series..
But E6400 cost more than E6550, and it doesn't overclock as good as E6550.....

Could i go for a 320MB version and OC it to the 640MBs speeds? or do they run the same speeds, just different vram? Also, How will that rig (with a 320 MB card instead of 640) Run newer games coming out? IE HL:EP2, World in Conflict, Crysis, Bioshock, at the 1680x1080 resolution on a 22 inch widescreen monitor? thanks for your help guys. Oh, and also Call Of Duty 4, can't wait for that and would love it if my computer ran it flawlessly. :]

No, they run at the same speed.... and yes the only difference is video ram..

I would say it will run from medium to high setting at that resolution

Maroon1's correct, A couple weeks ago I came acrossed some benchmarks that showed little difference between the cards, I was surprised and looked some more, and all the benchmarks I could find showed them as equals regardless of resolution.

The only area where the 640Mb beat the 320Mb is when AA or AS was applied. You can expect a 40-60% performance boost playing at a high resolution with those two settings enabled.

The 640Mb may fare better in Dx10, but I find that doubtful. (presumptions again XD)

Thanks guys, i like good graphics, but i like smooth frame rates far more. (Hence why i don't own a xbox 360) I used to run games on low settings that would run fine on medium just because the slightest lag spike would make me sooo mad. thanks again.
