Just a thought.

I've always been a little confused on this. Maybe it's a stupid question, but it's always bugged me and I thought I would finally ask it.

People always brag about their internet connection speed. "I have 10 meg." or "I can download a movie in 10 minutes." Correct me if I'm wrong, but having a 10-megabyte connection does you no good if the server can't supply it to you at that speed.

So my question is, should you even consider a speed higher than 10? Maybe 20? Can servers generally off you information THAT quickly? Maybe I'm missing something. Please explain. Thanks.

You are correct. most servers are very fast and can keep up with supply. I have a 20 megabit/s connection (2.5 megabyte/s) and i usually only reach speeds of 1 megabyte/s and sometimes up to 1.5. So yes. you really only need a 12 mb/s line to really get a good deal.

But hey the more you have the more bragging power you have ;)

The higher speed helps torrent/P2P freaks a lot - when you can download from multiple servers at once, you'll get pretty amazing speeds!
