Just did some oc

So i been messin around with my card again...the 6800gt in my sig, i got it to 420 core and 564 mem(1129) and it wont let me past that, what tells the program it wont work i dont get it...also my card is the oc version form bfg and it came with a desiel heatsink as it is and i get no warmer temps after the 50mhz oc from it, think ima lapp that heatsink one the gpu..maybe do cpu and hsf on my mobo while im at it, but thats another topic.

Use ATITool for overclocking, I know it's meant to be for ATi cards but it will work with nVidia and all heavy overclockers use it, you can check if artifacts show up when you overclock.

So i noticed when running atitool for checkin artifacts, my gpu gets fuggin hot...i mean 95C hot, so i run the core down to stock at 370, and run it again, same results, i run farcry, same results...i know my case is not very good when it comes to air flow but dayum...think ima have to get in there and do something

GPU's run a lot hotter than cpu's. if you've got the stock heatsink either dont touch it (dont BFG's have really good warranties?) or put a really nice nv silencer of some sort on there with some AS5 and some ceramique for the memory chips...
and as for the overclocking, the reason it tells you that it cant go further is because, well, it cant. it becomes slightly unstable, and the program detects that. the card doesnt get enough voltage for such high clocks, and if it was really under a lot of stress for a prolonged period of time, it could give artifacts (artifacts = unstable, unstable = unhealthy for the card).

I generally know thid information..1st theres n o nv silencer on there but a nice hsf, two small fans looks like a really good hsf to be honest...also i know gpus do run hot and that the threshold is like 120C, but i see other people on this forum say their 6800gt runs at like 75C under load so 95C to me seems kind of high

6800gt Oc

I had my 6800GT OC'd to 425 core and 550 Mem and it ran 75C max underload. Runs about about 70C stock. EVGA stock cooler. Oddness. Could just be the card.

To be honest im thinkin its the airflow in my case, tihnk i may have to do something with the wires, i do have enough fans in the thing, as it does sound like a frickin leafblower

Maybe so. I've toyed with the idea of routing a tube from my AC vent into my case lol. Course my roommate would turn on the heat without telling me LMAO. :D
