Just how crappy is my computer?

Hi...
FNG here. I'm an avid gamer but not too hardcore or tech savvy. I have a couple year old computer that I just did a bit of uninformed upgrading on, before actually researching very much. It's current configuration is as follows:

AMD 64 3200
2G PC3200 DDR ram
GeForce 8600GTS 512MB

Would it be worth it to return the 8600 card (purchased from Newegg) and get something in a 8800, or is it really not worth it due to my processor? I want to play Crysis, but I don't know if I'll be able to even with an 8800? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanx.

i had a computer similar to that like 3 weeks ago before i built a new one. That build is possibly hindering the 8600GTS slightly, but the 8800 series will be bottlenecked greatly. Crysis won't run very great on that computer simply because the game is very graphic and computer intensive.

Yeah, its not going to be worth getting the 8800 unless your going to upgrade your processor..

That 3200 will not bottleneck, but "choke" a 8800 :(

Thanks for the info so far guys. Would it be worth it if I also upgraded the CPU to an AMD 4000? I have a socket 939 Motherboard, and I believe that's the fastest processor it supports. I saw them at Newegg for like 65 bucks. I was really wanting to put off a completely new machine for another year or so. Thanks for the help.:)

What I meant was EVGA, who makes the motherboard, says 4000 is as high as it supports. Or is that BS? I'll post the model later if you wouldn't mind letting me know what you think. Thanks.

If you give us the mobo model, we can see. Chances are there is a bios update that will allow support for dual cores. If not, might as well build a budget system OR buy a new motherboard that supports dual core.

You guys were right...I read the manual again last night. It says it supports Athlon 64, 64FX, and 64 X2 at 4000+. I think a 4000 was about the hottest thing going when I bought the computer.
Anyway, would upgrading from a 3200 to a 3800 64 X2 be worth it? They can be had for about 70 bucks. The next best thing I can find after that is a 4200 64 X2 for about 225.00, which I really didn't want to spend.
So do you think I should keep the 3200 and 8600GTS, or should I upgrade to a 3800 64 X2 and trade up to an 8800GT? Thanks for your input.:)
