Just installed fresh Windows Vista 7 earlier, the next day Now very sluggish

I tried Dban and killdisk and didn't work so gave up so earlier i reformatted and deleted my partition and installed Windows Vista 64bit and it was super fast. Im up to date with all my updates, installed the programs i needed and i was all set...until a few hour ago, suddenly my browser would stop loading,(firefox) i tried to refresh a million times and it would not go, it would just show that it's loading and halt right there in a white blank page. But the thing is, all my other programs would work online! My steam, i can play games online, talk on messenger, etc, but my firefox would NOT work! Not only does my firefox not work, i tried internet explorer and that WOULD NOT WORK as well. This doesn't make sense! Both my firefox and internet explorer won't work! The only way i can get them to work again is to restart my laptop. Also, it has been really sluggish lately, loading programs, opening programs, it would take 20 seconds to open firefox or even malwarebytes!? And when i look at my resource monitor it shows that it's not using much cpu or ram, they were all low.

My laptop is a asus Core 2 Duo T9300, 4GB of DDR2 667 Ram, Just upgraded from WINDOWS VISTA 32BIT to WINDOWS VISTA 64BIT.

Sir,

First of all, read my late post," Is a/v software a virus"

You are in a perfect place to experiment. You are able to format and reinstall windows, no big deal.

I recommend that you remove all a/v , malware software and run for a few days. You will find, as I did that a/v software is far more trouble than it is worth. I have not had any virus issues for two years of running completely naked and I even have the windows firewall turned off.

I only make the recommendation that you try this now because you have nothing important on your computer yet.

Ken i dont understand why you just quoted that...also dont understand your problem with anti-virus engines when most machines nowadays have more than enough overhead to handle any A-V software... i dont know how you think you can get away with it but i do know people even with av software and good surfing habits can have downloaders embedded in a website they trust totally blindside them. i had two machines get hit with the same piece of scareware in the SAME day, and i had to fix both, crap is out there, you best have your ass covered... honestly a little annoyed with the bad advice

dave have you checked to see if your windows power scheme is not in power saver mode? if its in that mode it may feel sluggish, i would check to see if your in balanced or high performance, i recommend balanced as it lets the cpu throttle itself back when not loaded

Just because you disagree with advice, does not mean it is bad. I still think that a new windows installation, before anything important is on it is a good time to experiment.

Hey Davie, here to give you some help.

What kind of laptop do you have, please give specifics on make, model, addons/changes, mods of any kind. Also, has the laptop been subjected to any harsh forces, spills, extreme weather, any unusual noises or smells coming from the laptop? Is the computer under warranty? Is the laptop on loan from work, school or any other group?

Definitely get the brand, and model of the hard-drive installed in the laptop.

Ken i dont believe in what your saying, i dont believe many people in the industry would believe you either. There are nasty things out there in websites that can and will get you unless you have something covering your kernel. Unless your running linux, i do not recommend not running any form of antivirus, as it will end up costing you time, money and frustration. I am currently running MS Forefront on this laptop which has a 1.2 ghz pentium M and 512 mb of ram, and i dont see it adversely affecting my windows experience at all. I think your point of view is flawed on this matter. And espically with a new windows installation WITHOUT patches, you need to keep that sucker protected, hell i wont connect a fresh windows installation to the net until i know it has a basic AV program on it, because i have had stuff sneak in while trying to grab an antivirus program. Why do you think windows patches itself every tuesday? for shits and giggles? i think not. there are some nasty things out there ken, and eventually i hope you figure this out.

a little note, without the 'antivirus software' i wouldnt have been able to remove the scareware from the peoples machines...so i dont honestly understand why your trying to fight this arguement (Malwarebytes Anti-malware was what i used btw)
