Just Installed New HSF

I just installed a new HSF and it was rather difficult to get it screwed in. I couldn't get it fastened without the fan twisting and turning a little bit over my CPU and I could feel the thermal paste moving. I read it's not good to twist and turn the fan because the thermal compound can be less effective if done. I'm wondering if I might need to remove it and try it again, although I'm doubtful I could do any better this time around. Also, I'm monitoring my temps on CoreTemp and I notice that two of my cores are consisting 5 degrees C hotter than the other two. I know that some cores run hotter than others but it seems rather consistent and there wasn't such a difference with my other fan - it had maybe 2 or 3 degree difference. Core 0 and 1 run about 40 idle while the other two run at 35. Any thoughts on this?

Does it really matter as the cores will be working at different levels depending on use of computer and long as the the temps are in the tolerance levels of satisfactory use.

Wouldn't hurt to re-seat the cooler and see if the difference between cores changes or if a little lower temps can be achieved. I usually end up mounting coolers more than once to be sure I've got the best mounting possible and often end up with significant variations in temps with different mounting attempts. That said, all of my quads have had considerable differences in core temps at idle, (0/1 higher), - With the difference lessening under load.

It's normal for some cores to run hotter. I recommend closing absolutely everything you have open, leave HWMonitor open for a few minutes and see what the temps idle out too.

Alright, thanks for the replies. I guess it doesn't matter as long as it stays in a safe range, as MMM mentioned. I did re-install it and it's the exact same as before, so I guess it wasn't done incorrectly the first time.
