just starting

ah good stuff, keep me informed!

take your time, its pritty straight forward!

get some pictures posted up so we can see your final build

hi
its about the cpu fan, should it be facing down the motherboard, at the moment its all installed and about 2 inches from the top of the case. its the antec three hundred. there is a fan at the rear at the top which blows air out and a fan on top of the case at the rear again for blowing air out. i could turn it round but that would mean taking off the thermal grease, or not connect the top fan as there are other options for fans in the case or is the gap enough. thanks

you linked to the home page of overclockers dude lol...

what was the cpu cooler you got again?

can you put that heatsink so the fan is sucking air from the front of the case and blowing it through to the fans on the rear of the case, that would be ideal...

if tou can only have it 2 ways up or down i thing the fan should be on the buttom blowing up over as the warm air risses so the air will be warmer at the top of your case!

what sort of temps you getting with it the way it is?

hi
all I've installed so far is the motherboard, the fan can either be up or down at the moment it is directly opposite the pre installed fan on the top of the case, my thinking was if i didn't connect that pre installed fan the cpu fan could suck air through the grid (does that sound right)

just tested some thermal grease i tried on a piece of plastic before i installed the fan and its not hard yet. what can you use to wipe off the thermal grease. would this be the best option.

that would work....

I think Funky might be offline...

What do you mean you
just tested some thermal grease i tried on a piece of plastic

Not sure what you are saying. Can you be more specific?

what can you use to wipe off the thermal grease.

Normally you buy some remover liquid and surface purifier. I have heard of people using Alcohol in a bind...might be worth a shot. Scrub it with a Q-Tip and then wipe it with a coffee filter. Just put a little Alcohol in the cap and dip the Q-Tip in it.

*******EDIT********

Sorry, your little green light is not lit up....I thought the guy was asking questions to nobody:)

hi thanks for all the advice, i managed to clean the cpu top and the cooler bottom re applied the grease and turned the fan so it is now pointing down the computer.

hi funkysnair
i have put a picture of my computer so far(not a good picture) in the cases, power supplies and cooling section of the forum, with the fan now facing down, should the fan be blowing down or sucking up. i think at the moment its blowing down.

you need to get the air out of the case, sucking from the inside and blowing up towards the top exhaust fan!!

i think the problem was when you wer describing it was the fact that you are not sure if the fan is blowing through the heasink or sucking through!

most casses the fan is blowing through the heatsink!

i am not a a cpu heatsink/fan know it all as i am a liquid cooling man myself but you need to make sure taht the warm air from the cpu is blown outwards towards the nearest exhaust fan!

when i set up my computer i make sure all fans at the front are intake and all at rear are exhaust (including top fan)

as heat risses the top fan will exhaust most of the warm air out so if you can have your fan sucking air form middle of your case and blow it up through the top you will achieve better temps

hi
thanks, i think that is what bodaggit23 said he suggested just turning the fan itself around so it is sucking air up, not sure if this is possible as the fan has four holes one in each corner on one side only, for the fan springs. this is harder than i thought it would be, but i will carry on

you can turn the fan upside down and it will work rather than taking heatsink off and turning that around!

but seriously can you not have it like in the pic?

hi
yes i could have it like the picture, it would mean taking the motherboard and cooler off and starting again, putting on fresh thermal grease etc. i guess i am just worried about damaging the motherboard. is the fan in the picture sucking air in from the front of the case. a stupid question i know but how do you tell if its sucking or blowing.
