Ok so I finally got round to installing GTA IV on my new rig, it's the first time I'm installing the game ever on PC so I'm getting really confused here.

I installed as per instructions, so I installed GTA IV and Rockstar Social Club.

To play the game now I double click on the GTA IV icon, wait a bit and a screen comes up where there's a button at the bottom left that says PLAY. I assume this is correct so far?

Right so, when I click on PLAY I get prompted to install 'Games for Windows LIVE - Update'. I don't want to install this social club or GFWL, I just want to play the game normally, not online or anything as my bandwidth can't handle online games.

How do I just install the game so I can play with all that other stuff? :(
 
you need gfwl if you plan to save your game, or atleast the first time you sign in.

Install games for windows live (it is part of Windows Updates now too and isn't particularly large), sign in with your windows live account, if you don't have one, make one, you don't need anything or need to give anything, once you are signed in you can play and save and that, and then there is a way to play offline, but it involves signing in in the first place, so you need games for windows live even just playing single player, but you don't need rockstar social club unless you awnt to go online
 
It said I had to download GFWL so I followed the link it gave me, downloaded a 25mb or so file an then when it came to installing it, it said something along the lines of Win_32 and didn't install. Did I perhaps download the 32-bit version of it?
 
If you dont want it, which I recommend that you install it, then get something called xliveless. It also loads .asi files for mods
 
They never should have implemented GFWL or RGSC into this game. totally ruins the experience... i mean when you cheat it blocks achievements... which i really don't care about anyway... but the achievements are for GFWL.
 
Okay look, I don't have GFWL right now so I can't play GTA IV, it won't let me. How do I get gfwl? Because it only prompts me to download an update.
 
EDIT: I got it working now. I can open the game and play, save and everything.

Do I have to sign into Social club and gfwl everytime I want to play and everytime I want to save?
