K-Lite codec pack question

I am using windows vista business (which has no support for DVD movie playback, or for burning home movies made with windows movie maker onto DVD's). So, I downloaded the K-Lite codec pack, but I still can not play DVD movies. Is there something else I need to do? Or, was K-Lite not the right thing I needed?

If I remember correctly, I installed K-Lite codec pack basic.....did I need to do the standard or full version instead?

Basic question.....have you got a DVD Rom?

I haven't had much sucess either try downloading xp codec pack, this has cured every codec related problem i've ever had!

Get it here: http://www.xpcodecpack.com/

EDIT: While i'm here, what are your system specs?

When i used to have my old Pentium III computer with a dvd drive i couldn't play DVD's because my Gpu wasn't up to the task!

Yes, I have a dvd player/burner. Intel Pentium 4 @ 3GHz, 2GB Ram, Nvidia GX5500 card w/256MB ram on it (only a PCI card though, as my motherboard doesn't have AGP or PCI-E). When I tried to play it after installing the codec pack, it said I had to go into system properties and reduce the resolution or color which I did, but it still wouldn't play.

Edit: I was able to play DVD movies when I had XP before upgrading to Vista, and was using Nero 6 with the DVD plug-in. My Nero 6 isn't compatable with Vista from what I understand though. (Got Vista Business for free through a microsoft promotion or would have got home or ultimate).

looking at the k-lite stuff again, it looks like the standard edition has widows media player classic in it which the basic edition that i installed didn't have....would it play ok if i did the standard editon of k-lite with the WMP classic and used that?

install the video driver and set your native resolution.

I tried installing the lastest driver from nvidia, (i chose the vista x86 one because i have 32 bit vista and the only other choice was vista 64), and it wouldn't install....gave some error message which i don't remember.

Tbh you should have waited on installing Vista. Didn't you hear all the warnings about certain software and hardware compatibility problems?

yeah, but i don't mind playing around with it...this isn't a mission critical machine. what about the basic vs standard k-lite pack....it the standard version with WMP classic the one i should have downloaded?

Edit: I downloaded the Full version of K-Lite, and was able to view the movie using WMP classic. I tried using windows movie maker, imported a small video clip from my camcorder, and made the movie, but after burning it onto a DVD it wouldn't play on my DVD player (regular living room player hooked up to my tv) like i used to be able to do in nero.

are you using the same type of blank media? and also Nero came out with a new edition it's still Nero 7 but it's now compatible with vista it may be worth taking a look at(personally I find Nero to be the best option)

yes,,,i used a blank dvd from the same spindle i used before. i like nero also, but hate to dish out the money for nero 7 when i just bought 6 a year ago or so......any other good free programs to use to make my dvd home movies from my camcorder?
