Off over night - other wise waste of electricity and usage of PC compnents.
Only have PC on when being used (obviously).

Talk about a waste of electricity ;)
not really, considering most PC's have, on average say, a 500w PSU, so to keep three PC's on for an hour would use the same amount of power as boiling a kettle, typically 1.5 Kw.... Thats not too much power... now if each one has a CRT monitor on 24/7 aswell, thats a different story.

well i've heard once that cutting power off electronic components is not really a good thing for it.
does anyone have any idea about this ?

I turn mine off because my room gets way too hot with it on, even with my ceiling fan going full blast.

Off... No reason to unless you're downloading/rendering something huge. Wears out the fans/drives as well. Produces heat, noise...the list goes on and on.

now would turning it on and off everymorning be not as good for the harddrive?
or just turning it off and on whenever u get on or get off..?

i set mine to hibernate because I would actually like to sleep and dont need my loud fans making bundles of noise
Why cant you sleep it?

I just put mine to "sleep" at night, that way it's instant on and all my data/apps are still there.

wow...thats a long time, I leave mine on probably 3/4 of the time in a week I leave it on at night (the light humming is like background noise and its easier to fall asleep) but if Im going out of town or something I turn it off

Really, If thats true shows how much electricity a kettle uses.

well are we talking about a electric stove? or gas stove?
We are not talking about any stove. Talking about a 'kettle', a electrical appliance which boils water, for making cups of tea and coffee or for any use of making hot water.

Go to google images and search kettle.

that is a kettle (if u do a google image search "kettle" that is the majority of the type of things that pop up...) it is not an electrical appliance... you put it on a stove with water in it and it boils the water, and then it whistals... it is mechanical, not electronic...

Well yes, but that doesnt use any electric does it so not going to be using a stove kettle in comparison to a PC would we.
END OF DISCUSSION

The US is the only country that doesn't widely use countertop portable electric kettles.

Although you can get them in the states if you look hard enough, they're VERY popular in the UK, Ireland, and Canada... anyplace they drink more tea than coffee. You can't go to any store in any of these countries and not see them for sale. People use them so they don't have to use the big kitchen stove.
