Keeping Your Computer Running Like New

This regards general computer maintenance that should be done regularly. I was reading an article about computer maintenance and the tips it gave are:

01. Disk Defragmenter (once every two months)
02. Scandisk (once a week)
03. Disk Clean-Up (at least once a week)
04. Update OS (when available)
05. Update Drivers (when available)
06. Check HD Space (delete files you don't use or burn to disk)
07. Get Rid of Spyware
08. Shut Down Properly
09. Utilize Your Anti-Virus Program
10. Clean Windows Registry (once a month)

Is there anything that you guys would add to this list? I'm just wondering if we can compile in a thread (assuming it hasn't been done already) all of the best tips for regular computer maintenance to keep your computer running the best it can for a long time.

Tips from people responding to this post:

01. Reformat The Disk (every so often)
02. Dust Your PC (use compressed air)

ya, and reformat the disk everyonec and a while....

yup, keep the fans clean 2 have all the air flow, i clean my CPU fan alot, and also take my PSU apart 2 get all the dust and junk out.

how about a little more description for those who are looking to receive help from this and not just contribute ideas?

like, I don't really know what some of those mean..

Don't look at P*rn.

I think cleaning up your desktop icons and junk off of there helps a little. I am also a firm believer of achieving and backing up material on a regular basis.

whats wrong with that? ;)

give machine a good clean each month, try letting it soak in a bath for a couple of hours to remove the really hard burnt on crud, i find fairy washing powder also helps too :D

*disclaimer* If anyone is foolish enough to try any of the above then I will not be held accountable for any damage sustained to the system or any issues with it no longer working
