The other night my brother wanted to plug his sata hard drive into our desktop. He shut the computer down and plugged right in. Didn't unplug power or anything so there was still power running through the mother board; green light still on power supply.
Upon trying to boot back up with the new drive in, it failed. So I shutdown, disconnected all power to mother board, unhooked the drive and tried to boot back up as normal. Failed to boot up and restarted..again and again. Went into Advanced Boot Options menu and attempted to disable auto restart on system failure. It tried to reboot and failed then restarted as if I didn't disable auto restart. So I tried to boot into safe mode, it failed and again tried to restart.
At one point I was presented with the Windows was unable to boot correctly....possibly due to new hardware...blah blah.
I then decided i'd try to jump the CMOS with the little jumper on the pins. After that I got it to boot up fine...until now.
I restarted the comp and it was doing it all over again. So I jumped CMOS and booted up.. now to find it isn't reading the CD drive.
Any help or input is greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the novel. *cliff notes* Computer is failing to boot every time and doing auto restart on system failure; even when I try to disable it. Only way I've found to boot is jump the CMOS.
