Kernel32.dll Error!!! Caused by faulty hard drive?

I posted yesterday about my sister buying a new Packard Bell iXtreme 9600.

Q6600, 3GB, Home Premium, 9600GS 768MB, 750GB.

I already know that the hard drive is broken and needs replacing, but the operating system has started throwing up errors in the event viewer.

It says that explorer caused a problem in the faulting module, Kernel32.dll (a System32 file). I did some quick research, but didn't find much. Apparently this could be down to faulty memory? Or do you think it's more likely that the hard drive is causing these errors (can you believe that we have to put up with a broken one for two weeks, until they can order some more stock!!!)

Thanks for any help anyone.

I've gotten this error once. I took the easy way out and replaced the hdd and had no more problems. You could try to reinstall the OS, but probaly won't help much.

Yeah, thought so. HDD is broken already, clicks really loudly. Gonna get it replaced, but have to wait two weeks until the store gets more stock. They expect me to use a broken PC for two weeks, and they haven't even offered to replace the hard drive themselves, under their free 28 day warranty!!!

PC World are cheap sons of b**ches!!!

Gonna sign off and run MemTest just to be sure. If it's both, PC World are so dead. This will be 7 faulty PC's in a row, and I'm not going to go quietly.

Well considering PC World don't actually make or QA/QC the PC's it's not really fair to have a go at them. Packard Bell would be appropriate. Christ if they tested every machine of theirs to destruction there'd be no staff to sell you the product!

MemTest86 reports no errors with the RAM. Have gotten SeaTools to work though - set HDD configuration from AHCI to IDE in the BIOS. Finds the drive fine now.

Packard Bell don't actually provide the products warranty. PC World buys all of their stock without warranty, and they use their Tech Guys service to provide warranty on their products. So therefore, jurisdiction for faulty products falls down to them, as admitted by the store manager, Steve Ford of store 4888, Ashford Kent.

I haven't actually had a go at anyone yet, I'm just getting really pissed off that I've had 7 malfunctioning computers, and haven't got a working one within the 2 months I have been dealing with them (since the original purchase).

Anyway, since SeaTools is now working, I'll run a diagnostic. Thanks for the help everyone.

It's not a cheap drive. It's a SeaGate ST3750840AS (Barracuda 7200.10RPM SATA 3.0GB/s 750GB). I can't find it on www.ebuyer.com or www.newegg.com - so I don't know if they're available for general sale yet. The only other I could find was the ST3750640AS 750GB (for $150). The only place I could find the exact model number (as reported by SeaTools), was at the SeaGate website.

I'm a gonna get it replaced under the warranty (hopefully). I've been told to diagnose the drive with SeaTools (a four hour process), then take a photo and email it to them. If it comes up with anything, they'll replace it straight away. If it doesn't, and it is clicking for some reason that cannot be determined by the diagnostic, they're gonna take it into the store for upto 8 weeks to take a look at it, and replace it.

My own personal hell. The tech bench of PC World, Ashford, being spoken to like a four year old. Just a little something I found online that sums up the service. . .
