Key file explained

My previous post was locked. Let me do my best to explain since I'm not computer literate. I'm a simmer and use Microsoft Flight Simulator. I am trying to download a key file for an add on that I already purchased. At the time of purchase , I had a old computer. Now I'm trying to install a key ( serial no.) that the company e-mailed to me. I'm trying to open the file with Internet Explorer , but it doesn't work. I'm looking for a downlload that will open this serial no. file.I hope this helps.

Have you tried using another browser yet? Try downloading Opera or Firefox.

Then try again. It may be that IE doesn't "want" to open it. :)
 
You probably need to open it with something like WinRAR, 7-Zip, or WinZip, because it sounds like it's an archive file.
 
So the file you're opening has the serial number in it? What's the file extension? If it's just got a serial number in it then I would imagine it's some sort of text document or a PDF.
 
Is it a file? What is the extension? like key.pdf note the .PDF or key.zip note the .zip.

Download the file to your computer, don't open it in IE. If it's a zip file use 7Z. Google it. If it's a pdf use Foxit PDF reader.
