By buttons i mean the extra buttons on a keyboard like media player controls, volume, internet etc. They use to all work now only the volume and mute buttons work. the only ones i really care about are the play, previous, next and stop buttons that use to work with windows media player. anyone know how i can get them working again? nothing shows up in the keyboard buttons section in the control panel. its just empty, so i don't know where to go from there. Suggestions?

Try reinstalling the software for the keyboard or making sure the buttons are still assigned in the software for the program.
