keyboard detection problem...

i have a ps/2 keyboard that is not detected by my computer....
i have tried it on another computer and it works, i also tried with a ps/2 to usb adapter and it doesn't detecte it....

any ideas???

Um. I really need more information but:

Ps/2 Keyboards and mouses will only connect properly when the computer is off. Basically, the reason is because the power only goes through the ps/2 ports upon bootup. So, if you connect the keyboard....when the computer is on already. It won't recognize that anything's been plugged into the jack.

Solution:

Plug in keyboard, then restart comp.

What you need to do is connect a known-good PS/2 keyboard to the computer's PS/2 keyboard port.
If the known-good keyboard does not work, then you need to try to check if a driver is loaded, like cohen says. If it is and the keyboard still doesn't work, your motherboard keyboard port is dead. That means time for a new motherboard.

that's why i said is the driver install one for the motherboard and two for the keyboard.

You should not need to install drivers to use a PS/2 keyboard and the reason its probably not working with the USB adapter is because USB keyboard support is not enabled in the bios. If the keyboard works on another computer theres a chance you have a bad PS/2 port. Try getting another known working keyboard and try it in your PS/2 port.

So maybe your PS/2 port is faulty...

your motherboard keyboard port is dead. That means time for a new motherboard.

Not exactly. You can still use USB ports.

Yup just use a USB to PS/2 adapter and you'll be set to go.
