Runnin XP on my girls computer an older dell desktop. I password protected it a week ago to keep the daughter off it. About 3 days ago it was at a dos screen saying floppy disk drive seek error and asking for a password. I only get a beep when I press the keyboard. XP does the load screen before I get the Dos screen. I cant enter setup or boot screen with the function keys, pushing the one for setup makes it say setup starting but it still goes to the dos screen. She is out shopping and wants to buy what she may need today. Could this be a hard drive failure? The boot sequence shouldnt have the floppy drive set before cd or hard drive. She is buying a windows cd today as hers is missing. I could swap parts to my computer for testing if need be, thanks for any help.

OK, well I got home from work. She picked up a 500GB hard drive and a Windows XP disc. I hooked up the hard drive into one of the bays and booted up the computer, I get the same screen saying Sata 0 or 2 not installed or something like that. There are two 160GB hard drives that came with the computer. I get the message when neither of them are hooked up. When one is hooked up with the new hard drive I still get the Floppy disc seek error. Any ideas??

And I reset CMOS and removed the password with the appropriate jumper pins and was able to start windows. Seems as though the new hard drive and windows were unnecessary but installing the hard drive now anyhow. Have had some issues with RAID which apparently the dual hard drives were synced up to be the same. Never had an experience with that before.
