keyboard virus???

hi there, iam new to this forum, iam having trouble with my laptop which is running on xp. when i go to log on in the password field i it will not let me type '1' into the field. It acts like the tab key and selects the logon tab. When i press 't' it displays t and number '4', is this a virus??? and what could it do to fix this i can't logon!! is there a keyboard command to display the number 1 without have the physically press number 1?:confused: :confused:

Try plugging in a different keyboard like one for a desktop into the laptop and then see. If you can get in that way then do a virus scan.
 
You dont have a P/S2 connector on the back of your laptop? Most do. Not the game system PS2, its the normal connector for a mouse or keyboard.
