Keys to the CPU fan

so the cpu fan is basically split into two parts right? a cooling fan and the heatsink....they are seperate on their own right? so if the fan doesnt work could i just simply replace the fan w/ one of the same specs and then ill have the same cpu+heatsink combo right? or is that highly impossible?

yeah- two parts. heat sink to draw heat off of chip, and fan to draw heat off of heat sink. replace the fan and you'll be fine.

Well, it kinda depends. On stock heat sink, sure, you could replace the fan easily, but some heat sinks, like Zalman's I think, have the fan built into the heatsink, and you have to replace the whole thing.

In other words, if you can replace it, go ahead!
