just throwing this out there. i built this computer about 2 yrs ago. it went haywire on me about 6 months ago. i assume it was the hard drive, cause i took it out and out it in my other computer and it was alla sorts of f-ed up. so i bought a new hard drive and something isnt right. when i start up the computer it doesnt recognize the primary master or the primary slave. then im not real sure what it does but it ends up with a screen that says
"Not Found

Boot Failure
Insert BOOT diskette in A:
Press any key when ready"

now i dont have windows installed on this new hard drive so it cant be asking for a windows boot disk, could it?
all questions, comments, or concerns are welcome. as well as info that will actually enable me to get this bad boy up and running again.
thanks a bunch

ok, if you are right and it was only your hard drive that crapped out 6 months ago, then the problem would lie in either this new hard drive also being dead or the jumpers on the back of this drive are wrong. Ensure they are correct to where you position it on the cable, or take the jumpers off completely and it should revert to CS (Cable Select) and it should do it iself.

If that doesnt fix it then you either have another dead drive or when your previous HDD broke it took the mobo down with it. First step is to test that new hard drive in another machine. see if its recognised by the BIOS

Like dragon said, it's almost certainly a simple jumper issue in my view, when you have that sorted, you say you haven't installed Windows? Windows won't boot unless it's been installed, so unless I'm missing something, you'll need an installation disk and key to install it onto the new drive.

no good

thanks for the advice guys but, nothing worked. i guess dragon was right, when my old hard drive went it must have f-ed up my motherboard, looks like i have some rebuilding ahead of me. guys got any good(economical) suggestions on motherboards?

Have you tried the hard drives seperately, before you give up on this? If you really want a new mobo, post your specs so we know what's going to be compatible.

before going to a new mobo try updating the BIOS, i had a similar problem that was fixed in the end with a simple BIOS update, alternatively have you got a Floppy in your floppy drive, or any other device that acts as a Pen Drive, as your computer could be trying to boot from this and, obviously, failing. If you can't find any devices then try setting the hard drive as the first boot device, or second, after CD-Rom

ive been out of the computer scene for awhile now and forget most of what i used to know how to do. i would def try updating the bios but i have no idea how to. i do have a floppy drive, and my computer is trying to boot from it. whenever it tries to boot i see the floppy drive turning on. not sure how to change the order the devices boot up in. i know it has to do with the jumper on the back of the drive but i also know it has to be positioned specifically on the cable as well. in the event that i do need a new mobo
its a p4 motherboard i believe(p4s5a/dx) with a 2ghz celeron processor, 512mb 333mhz elixir ram, some b grade nvidia video card (most likely will be updated when i get this thing up and running again. sound card was built into the mother board, some basic SIS card, thats pretty much it, was my old gaming computer cause my laptop aint worth a shit when it comes to gaming
me->:confused:
