KSP Frame Rate Drop

Hello Everyone! I'm new here and I had a question regarding Kerbal Space Program.

I started playing KSP about two weeks ago. For the first two weeks I was getting frame rates around 20 to 30 per second at maximum graphics. Recently dough, the fps has dropped to 1 or 2 (Horrible). I don't understand what happen. Maybe its hardware related, maybe its software, I don't know. I was wondering if any of you have had the same issue and if you managed to fix it.

The specs on my laptop are:

Manufacturer: Cyber Power
CPU: Intel i7 2670 MQ 2.20 GHz
Memory: 8GB of DDR3
Graphic Card: NVidia GT 540M (2GB Dedicated)

Notes: When I run KSP, the memory usage for the game never goes above 1.2 GB.

I'm at a lost, so I hope someone here can help me.

First, KSP is awesome :D

Second, I'd like a few more details about your problem.

If you look in the top left corner, where the mission clock is, what colour is the text (green/yellow/red)?
Are you building ships with a lot of parts?
Did a ship that used to run fast now run slow?

The clock alternates between green and yellow. I don't think part count is an issue, currently I'm trying to conduct a munar reconnaissance mission with a rover that has 50 parts and 3 man crew and it's been brutal. I cleaned out the debris (I had over 100 parts in orbit) and that improved the fps from 2 to 7. I used to get 15 when lunching the different parts of my space station (200 plus parts each launch), but now I get 2 to 3 when I launch a 70 parts rocket. Half the time I blow up because I'm trying to time the staging based on time instead of visual confirmation.

The clock being yellow indicates kerbal is running at half speed.

If the whole rocket only has 50 parts you're right, that shouldn't be an issue. Besides the debris you cleared, do you have a lot of other things orbiting? Space stations, landers, flags, kerbal evas, etc.

No. I only have one re-fueling station orbiting Kerbin, and a Mun base with a rover and a crew of three. I had a few other rovers on minmus, but they where all out-of-service so I ended them. Just downloaded the latest drivers from NVidia, maybe that will do something. If not I guess I've to wait until the new updates come out and in the mid time run it at half graphics.

Yeah, if the drivers don't help the only thing I can suggest is try lowering the graphics settings. My understanding is that 0.21 will help with a lot of the physics stuff that might be causing your system to lag.
