Kt7a-raid

I just replaced a friends board with a KT7A-RAID board. The system is runnign rather hot(43C) and after a few minutes, I get one continuous beep and the system freezes. Any ideas what it is? Could it be overheating? I've never had this particular problem when a system overheats.

Any ideas people? I have no idea what this continuous beep and sytem crash mean. I suspect overheating, but it does that after a few minutes and its always at 43C. It doesnt do that when theres a lot of load on the CPU, it does it at random times.

I have a plain KT7A in my old system and it never gave me any problems. Now, my system never overheated(and 43C shouldn't be too hot) but I don't think it's a continuous beep for the overheating alarm...

Have you tried removing some of the cards to see what happens? I doubt it but check to see if it's some conflict...

Oh, and what processor are you running? You know it can't go higher than a Tbird 1.4GHz(well, I have heard of some people using an XP1600 in them...)

It's got a duron 1.1. There is just a nic and grapics card in there. it's odd how it works.. if it was some kind of conflict because of the cards, it wouldnt suddenly act up after it's booted and windows loaded.
I honestly have no idea what it is. My only other idea is something with the PSU, and maybe that beep is some sort of abnormal voltage alarm.
I also agree that 43c isnt TOO hot, but hotter than I'd like. I got my XP 3000+ OCed to 2.4 and it doesnt even idle that hot.

OK. Seems I was wrong. It's doing the same thing now. I really havent the slightest clue what the deal is...

Possibly bad cpu? I replaced the motherboard because her old one fried. A chip on it (not sure what it was for, exactly) overheated, cracked, and burned up. Could this have damaged her cpu too?

There's always the chance anything else could be damanged. RAM, drives, etc... However, usally if a processor has damage, it just plain won't work.

That's what I figured. If the CPU was damaged, it wouldn't work at all. But for some reason, it seems as though the CPU is damaged, and it works for a short while before crashing.
Next time I go over I am going to try underclockig the cpu. I really don't know what else to do. I don't have a cpu sitting around that is compatable with that board.

i would say the ram has sustained damage. (how much RAM/many sticks do you have in that pc?) if its more tan 1, remove 1, and try to boot. if it still freezes, try the other one. (also, ry different slots.)

You are a genius! I tried that earlier today and so far it's been running perfect. Wish you had checked this thread out earlier, would have saved me a lot of trouble, and wish I checked it out before i went to her house. I just guessed after a little while that maybe it was the ram. Turns out the slot was bad.
