Whenever I play CS:S, I always have this lag where my character cant move, the world around me freezes, but I can move my head. Then after like 10 seconds it will come back to real time. Is this internet lag? It happens on all servers, even if my ping is like 15, and I have cable internet. Turns out the end of my cable was getting loose, could that be it? Also now I'm getting wireless what are good adaptors for gaming and also is a dell router going to cut it?

I don't know about your lag problem, but I wouldn't go with a dell router. Make sure the wireless is 2.4Ghz, and "g", not "b" (both the router and the adapter). Linksys, D-Link, and net-gear are good.

Ok, does regular wired cable have less lag than wireless? Is it really worth the switch to wireless? (Its my moms decision not mine... loooong story)

well if u get wireless b, ur connection is going to suffer because it maxes out at like 11 mbps. if u go with g, its pretty much as good as wired network. also it is critical you are close enough to the router/hub to get a decent signal. if u push the signal too far across the house, you get lag and loss of connection periodically.

I'm about 30 feet away from my router or hub or whatever... is that too much for games?

Its a perfectly clear path as long as I keep my door open, you can see the router from my room.

30 feet could effect the signal, but its not through a wall, so it wont be as bad. ur computer will tell you the signal strength when u connnect. it may have an issue, but hard to say. they say wireless routers like the b 802.11 is good for like 100 feet. problem of a poor signal can be from cordless phones, microwaves, etc. also, wall construction can hinder the connection, even if it doesnt have to pass thorugh it.

well, just as a personal opinion, i was on a wireless network for 2 yrs. I said i cant deal with it because of signal issues, connection issues, and speed issues, so i drilled the wall and ran the 25 foot cable to the router, nailed the wire to the baseboard and couldnt be happier. the only loss of signal now is the router connection loss (b/c of comcast working on it)

You can also check with cs and see if it is the pc or the connection laggin.. net_graph 3 shows the intenert packets received sent...

actually they say they can go 300 feet

If you have a portable phone, make sure its not the same freqency you get, portable phones come in 800Mhz, and 2.4Ghz, and so do wireless routers, 800Mhz, and 2.4Ghz.

And i did the same thing as the guy on the first page, I have a router upstars, with 2 PC's, and a router downstairs, sO i drilled a hole into the wall put the wire though then a cover went into the attic and brought it downstars drilled another hole, and it comes out of the wall behide the desk and right into the PC, and same with the two upstars except that wasn't nealy as difficult.

I'm on a wireless connection. About 35 feet away from the router, up a story, and through a wall. I still get 54 mbps, a very good signal, and my ping for CSS NEVER goes above 120. I'm usually within the 50-80 ping range.

54mbps isn't your signal stregth, it's your adapter's max.

ya, you arnt actually getting that high speed, but microsoft only shows 2 or 3 speeds, 54, 30 something, and maybe a 16.

My router is about 35 feet away and haning off the roof and I am getting 54mbps(yes my accual speed) with very good signal. Its a belcan. Now with the lag, have you done eny virus/spyware scans lately? Has it alwase been laggy? What are your specs?

(Btw, did ya think it was cable that was making lag, DSL is the way to go!)
