LAN Build

THIS IS NOT FOR ME!

My friend goes to all these LAN parties and he's tired of lugging around his semi-upgraded BestBuy computer (don't even need to talk about the specs of it). I made this little wish list thing for him and it costs about 650.00 and it took me like 20 minutes to find the parts on NewEgg. He's somewhat alright with the price, but he wants something under 600. I know the CF community is much better at item finding and pricing than I am, so maybe I didn't do a very good job ( I based it off an Intel combo ).

So you want us to make a system under 600?

&

What were the specs you had just so we can compare? :)

I have to wait for the list to be shared now, I'll get back on in an hour or so, and see if it's up.

I can tell you just from the first two products it will not work. You have a mini-ITX case and a microATX mobo. You either need a microATX case, or a mini-ITX mobo. The microATX case would be cheaper.

I want a balance between portability and performance, and mini and micro both sound small... so could you recommend one of the two?

Spend the extra few bucks and get a 4850, far better than 9600gt(the 4850 is basically like a 9800gtx+/GTS250 as far as performance)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131162

Memory, $4 more get a better brand and 1066mhz:

Caviar black $5 more:

Slim DVD burner is a waste, especially when that case uses standard 5.25" optical drives:

Whats with the socket 775? At that price you should be going with an amd setup imo. ECS makes crappy boards and id steer clear of them. Id do something like this:

Mobo:

CPU:

Your gonna need a PSU....

Whoa, WTF? Where'd the PSU go?

Anyways, I changed the items, put a 500W (he wants to get a higher end GPU later) ModXStream in there, and it comes to roughly 650$. Not a likable price (I like it) for him, so I dunno what to downgrade (not PSU)

Normally, I'd prescribe that, but he's an Intel Fanboy : ( and the intel stuff comes on a great combo deal.
