Hey....umm I would like to know a computer language......an easy one.... HTML would be an easy one, though I already know it, so first I want you to choose which one I should know first... here's the list:
Perl
Java
JavaScript
Visual Basic
Python
Cobol

Also, I should mention that I use MS Windows XP.

After that, either teach me the language or give me a good place to learn it from.

Then, tell me what I should learn next and.....either teach me the language or give me a good place to learn it from.

Then tell me what to learn next and you can guess what to do next...

Once I finish, I want to know C, C+, etc. Teach me it yourself or give me a good place to learn it..
:D

OK one more.... :eek: ok im kidding...lmao :D

hey wait a sec...............IT SAYS IM A COMPUTER NEWBIE!!!! I AM NOT!!!! I know plenty about them... but the only thing i dont is how to program..........and im only a newbie to this site......

NEWBIE!!!! :P

For learning to program VB is good, whatever you do don't touch COBOL it is the devil's (Java) right hand. You shouldn't really learn Java until you understand the concept of class inheritance and all that good stuff.

Cromewell.. you and Praetor love to hate JAVA, dont you? ...no need to answer.. Most people hate something when they are unable to master it :D ...:P

COBOL has its place in the world of programming - as far away from me as possible.

I always say learn C first. Its simple to grasp and its very easy to understand and apply the 3 golden rules of programming.... I would not touch VB first.. learning an event-driven programming language first is not the way to go.

That is soooooooooo General. I know you've given us some erm...programming languages but your gonna have to tell us what you want to do e.g. Do you wanna be a programmer, web developer or a games maker and so on and so forth...

The very first program I learnt was Bisual Basic but I think that thats a littke too hard for a NEWBIE!!!! :P beginner. I would recommend Pascal :) . I know its ancient but it shows the programmer the basic elements of most programming languages. Then FreaKDuD can move to other languages like VB :D

I will anyway :P no I don't love to hate Java, I just hate Java.

VB doesn't need to be even driven, it works ok as a functional language.

I'd go for C/C++.

If you want to get into web programming instead (since you said you know HTML already [which isn't a programming language btw ;)]), then Javascript might be a good easy language to start with. Then I'd go into PHP ;)

Python seems to be getting more popular now, too. I'm not too fond of it's syntax though.

Yeah, but why start out with VB then? Lets pick a "functional" first language that the newcomer can really learn in depth:) ...besides VB is a lot of english... while its easy, it makes learning subsequent languages a bit more difficult. (and if he learned the syntax of C first.. it would help him in many other languages, whereas if he learned VB first.. the slight differences would make it difficult... like remembering to put a semicolon on the end of a statement ;) )

Right On SFR. I start on VB and then found it hard to go to other languages. Learning something like Pascal or C will help you to jump to other languages a lot easier. :D

becuase language choice should not be based on syntax but the concepts, with an almost english style language it's easier to focus on the concepts rather than the nuances of the syntax. I was taught with VB as well and found the move to C quite easy

no matter which one language you choose, you should study it intensively,if you stduy more but not master any one, that's no use
i've learned C++

Oh, and when I master like a LOT and become REALLLY GOOOOD I might TRY to learn BrainFu**... I know it sounds crazy to even try but stil... I want to at least know the basics of BrainFu**... Even if it is VERY hard.

Stop Asking Me For A Title!!!

I have no idea what to learn first. None. Cromewell I hear is smart, but I also hear Java is a good place to start. Oh, and I am interested in all kinds of computer programming.

I simply want to start with the easiest one..... also, I've noticed nobody mentioned Perl. Can I ask why?

I am posting a lot, I know, but I would like to know.... HOW DO I BECOME A "NOT" NEWBIE?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

If you keep up the pointless posts (not to mention talks about hacking) that "computer newbie" will become "banned." Make thoughtful posts and don't worry about you're ranking, it doesn't matter in the least.

I think I'll listen to Cromewell for my first and learn VB. Thanks for the help guys...but that doesn't mean this thread is over...I'm going to need you to help me choose which one next..... I want to know C right away, but I think I should start with the easiest.....so thanks for the help!!!

LOL... VB is far from the easiest. I have taken 3 courses in VB 6.0, VB.NET and ASP.NET and I am sooo far from knowing all there is to know. I strongly disagree with Cromewell and urge you to reconsider. Many IT colleges teach C first for a reason... As smart as Cromewell is, and he is quite intelligent... I would trust the big-wigs at these colleges over Cromewell ;) ..remember Cromewell might be able to grasp VB easier than you... and I think it is more likely for you to understand C...since you have never studied a computer language before.
