Laptop AC or battery?

I just bought a toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. It is great, my first ever laptop and I love it.

I have a question. I plan to use this laptop mostly on a desk in my room. What do you suggest I run it on? Battery or AC?

Thanks

if you always leave the AC in it'll slowly kill the battery and it won't get a full charge anymore...kinda like what mine did. Make sure you get a vent system for the laptop. It'll make the battery last easily a year longer.

Leaving it on the charger will not kill the battery... They just slowly die overtime.

Ok but what is the best to do? Use it always on AC or use it sometimes on battery, charge it and then use it again on battery?

Thanks

If you're not going to use the battery for a while(many weeks/months) it's best to leave the battery around 40%-60%. Just remove it and use AC. But typically, you're fine leaving leaving it plugged in. You can only charge and discharge the battery so many times, but it will also just die over time, being used or not.

I like Psaila use my laptop like a desktop and have wondered about the battery, my question is, Can you run a laptop from the mains without the battery installed? I've looked in my docs for my HP Pavillion but can't see any info on this. Thanks

Please make your own thread if you have a question, don't steal someone elses :P

Most laptops you can run without a battery. I know my Averatec does just fine. However, I have seen some laptops that wouldn't run with a battery. The battery wouldn't even hold a charge, but there was something(perhaps a switch or circuit it completed) that caused it to not power on...
