Laptop always connects with no network/internet access

Ok, so I can't figure this out.

Everytime I try to connect to a wifi network, my laptop connects to the network with no network or no internet access. Doesn't matter which wifi network I try to use. My friend's laptop and XboX 360 can connect to these networks. My phone can connect to the same network without any problems, so I can tether my phone and use the wifi through my phone, on my laptop. But this is getting really annoying.

So far I have tried several different restore points. I have scanned for viruses, once one was found and removed, other times, no viruses found. I use MSE.

One of the restore points removed Windows updates, and I haven't re-downloaded and installed them.

My laptop is a Dell Studio XPS 1340, running a legit version of Windows 7 Pro. I don't think you need the specs, but: 4GB DDR2 RAM, 9400M G, Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz (stock speeds). I did have to open the case on the computer, but I don't (could be wrong) think that has anything to do with it since my computer still recognizes the wifi adapter.

What do I need to do?
 
Wireless driver? I have a netbook that will not connect to a WPA2 network with WinXP because I can't find a newer driver than the one it has installed now. I dual booted with Win7 and the stock driver that comes with Windows allows it to connect right away. Possibly a driver issue on your end, too? Did any of the Windows updates install a new driver, by chance? Otherwise, since you opened it, I wonder if possibly one of the internal antennae became disconnected and you're unable to connect because of that.
 
I don't think it did. I'll look for a new driver, but I don't think that a driver was installed. As for the antennae, I still find the networks, with different levels of bars, like normal. The only difference from normal is that there is no network or internet access.
 
reset ip and winsock for that connection

type in command prompt:

"netsh interface ip reset resetlog.txt"
"netsh winsock reset"

Restart computer
