I have had this laptop about 2 years -ish and i have a battery problem.

Basically it stopped taking charge, So i got a new battery, STILL didnt take any charge, so i got a new charging cable too, Seemed to work for about 48 hours. Now its all temperamental again.

Symptoms include; Blinking charging light and not taking charge, but this happnes only sometimes at the moment but i fear it will get worse as time goes on.

I have tested the laptop WITHOUT the battery in to see if it will take charge and it seemed to manage just fine.
What the hell is wrong with this thing!? Thanks. MG

Emachines E442 if you're wondering..

EDIT: Could RAM upgrades be a cause of this? Not too long ago i upgraded from 2GB to 6GB.

Did you keep the laptop plugged in all the time? It seems you have internal electrical damage now to the charging system.

Does the battery charge if you plug the laptop in with it powered off?

RAM should not affect the power delivery system on the laptop. They are 2 separate systems. I would venture to bet that it is a issue in the charging port, or possibly the pathways between the port and the battery.

It does seem to be plugged in alot, but thats only because it has a fairly poor battery life to begin with.

If it is the internal thing, How can it be fixed? if at all? :S

If its out of warranty then you are better off getting a new laptop.

BAH! nightmare. Better start looking for a new laptop then.
but like i said its temperamental at the moment. it works most of the time, but occasionally it doesnt. Thanks for the help everyone.
If you have anything more to point out please tell me..

You could have a broken pin in your power socket of the laptop, a common problem with laptops....gives intermittent charge/power.....
A new power socket should be easy to replace if you know how to dismantle your laptop.
