Laptop Build?

Ok guys, this is my first post here so don't rip my head off if I get something wrong. I want to build a laptop. Not starting from barebones or just a case. Would it be practical to buy an older or "broken" laptop and put newer, fancier, and better components in it? I don't do any gaming, mostly music, videos, lots of internet, and some word processing.

Thanks for the help and opinions

Just buy a cheap one. I saw in best buy's ad they had a Toshiba with 120GB HDD, 1GB DDR2 ram and a core 2 duo processor for $449

No. Buy a new one with a warranty, preferably an accidental damage warranty. There are two major components in a laptop: the mainboard and the LCD panel; if either of those go, it's much bucks! (like $400-$750 CND). Better to have someone else pay for it.

OK, thanks guys. Are there any brands to stay away from? I'm looking for the cheapest I can get without getting junk if you know what I mean.
