Laptop card--which are the best

I know some laptop video cards are bad, but I'm not sure which. Out of the Nvidia 8 series, which are the ones to avoid and which are the best? This would be in regards to gaming performance.

The 8600's and 8800's are pretty good I believe.

I'm not too good on the models though. (GT, GTS, etc.)

My alienware laptop will have the 8700m gt. That is between the 8600 and 8800. If you want to do gaming, I would strongly recommend a laptop with the nvidia 7950gtx (better than 8600), 8700m gt, or 8800gtx. The 8400 will not work well for gaming. If you are looking at gaming laptops check out alienware, dell, or asus.

how do the mobile cards compare to the desktop ones? are any laptop graphics as good as an 8800GT (desktop)?

The answer is no. Laptop GPU's due to power requirements, heat etc are reasonably poor. A 8800M will get about 9000 in 3DMark06, but that is as good as it gets.

eh, gpureview isn't much good because it just posts specs, and they really don't mean much. performance is the only way to compare cards.
