Laptop Connection to Printer Problem

Hi, have got a PC running Vista HP 32 bit - Canon printer connected by USB, Netgear router, have now got a laptop running windows 7 64 bit and have been trying to connect it to the printer via the router. I have read several posts on the web but do not seam to be able to get the laptop to find the printer when searching. I have changed properties of printer to Share and also changed the printer to share in the network properties. Any suggestions as to where I am going wrong - or full instructions would be most helpful.
And yes I have got the PC up and running when trying to make the search/connection.
Not sure if on the laptop network it should show my decktop PC - do I have to create another network?
Any help would be very appriciated

Use the printer install cd to install the printer on the new machine. If you don't have the install cd, download the software from their website.

Vista 32b and Seven 64b dont exactly play nice. I know Microsoft says it works, but the reality is in the field even a well seasoned tech like myself can be stumped by these two creatures.

You will definately need the Windows 64b driver.

Can you browse the network and see the Vista computer? If so, double click on the shared printer, when it says it doesn't have the driver, install from the download or CD.

Better yet call a local tech, and have him give you a flat rate, with no charge if they can't get it working.
