the the video will make a big difference. we could use your old case an HDD an mabey PSU if it is powerful enough.
i think windows does photoshop better than macs.
whats the specs of your dell destop you have now i will see if it is worth upgrading or replacing

What is your budget?

What are you looking to do, just photoshop, or are you looking at also doing some audio/video stuff?

Get whatever it is that you want to get. I personally despise Vista, and I also own 4 Macs as well as a PC. So, if you have any specific questions just ask away.

who do video/graphic design professionals use macs,

For one Hollywood. Most major Hollywood productions are done on the Mac platform. For example, transformers was edited post on several macbook Pros, and Pixar runs their entire render farm off of Macs.

at school they only have mac in the art department, and the rest are pc's
but all the pro photographers and all the graphic designers i know use macs,
do u think this will change, will they move to windows,

thanks

There is nothing a PC can do that a Mac can't and vice versa. They all do the same thing but sometimes some of them use different programs to accomplish that.

Having supported designers in the past and having friends that work IT at design firms, I can say that most of them are 50/50. Meaning 50% PC and 50% Mac.

It really comes down to personal preference. Some people will tell you that a Mac is over priced but they don't know what they are talking about. For one, Apple only uses high end LED LCD displays on their machines, which cost a lot more than your average laptop screen. They have every feature you would ever need built in, but they run OS X. You can run windows if you wish.

It really comes down to personal preference. I don't mind XP Pro that much, but I really don't like Vista at all (and yes I have a copy of Vista Ultimate), but that is my preference. I will be building a new gaming rig here in the next few months and will probably give Vista another shot now that SP1 is out for it and I do want to try out full DX10 support. However, it will never be my main OS. I will use Linux and OS X and XP Pro over Vista every chance I get.

So really for me, a PC isn't a must or a need. I do prefer the Mac platform for most things. It does what I need and is very stable and secure.
