Laptop & desktop emails.

Recently I had trouble with my desktop computer and decided to re install windows 7. This has gone ok but I am finding it impossible to put windows live mail back in. When I try to download windows live essentials I get a message saying ' windows essentials installer has stopped working '.
I click on ' check online for solution ' but that does not do anything.
Meanwhile my laptop works as it should and I can send and receive emails in live mail.
Is this something to do with using import/export to get the emails on both computers.? Any comments appreciated.

You might be having a hardware issue with your desktop. I'd try testing your RAM and hard drive for errors.

Also sounds like a corrupt windows install. Do any other programs install correctly?

I can surf the net and do other things on this drive but email is the problem. This is a new western digital HD so I don't think it is suspect. Before I had trouble with my desktop computer I could access my emails on both computers.

yes, I have just tried to install windows live again, same result.
The email prog is on my laptop is there an easy way to copy it across.?

You can't just copy programs from one computer to another. At this point, I would suggest reinstalling windows again and then try installing the email program and see what happens.

Re installed my windows 7 again today and googled install 'widows live essentials'. I chose the link to microsoft, and used it for the install.
It started the download ok then the same message came up saying 'windows essentials installer has stopped working' It checked online for a solution but found none.
I looked again at the list I had googled and this time picked 'CNET' to do the job. CNET was successful in the installation and I now have my emails working again.
Who would have thought CNET would do what Microsoft could not? Thanks to all for comments.

The link from Microsoft is probably corrupt is all. Cnet probably has an older version available for download.
