Laptop Display Problem

My Zoostorm 8252 ( 2yrs old ) running Vista home premium, has suddenly decided to provide me with a multiple display.

Immediately from boot the screen displays eight images 4 on the left hand side stacked in a column, with similar on the right hand side. The images run off the bottom of the screen. Each image is what would normally be shown full screen.
This multiple image display continues through through to Vista start up but then freezes to a blank screen before Vista completes loading.
Very occasionally the computer will start as normal and is fully functional.

Recently, when shutting down after another abortive attempt to get it up and running, I received the following message;

Hardware Malfuction
NMT: PARITY CHECK/MEMORY PARITY ERROR
xxx THE SYSTEM HAS HALTEDxxx

I don't know if this was prompted as a cause of the problem or as a consequence.

Can anyone suggest a possible cause for this? cause I haven't a scooby ( Graphics card? memory? bios? )

I'd appreciate any help anybody could give.

Could be the memory going bad, run memtest to diagnose. Onboard video could be bad. Possibly updating video drivers might help as well. Hopefully one of these is the issue.

Thanks for that.
Tried memtest- no problems reported.
I'll try the reloading video drivers next time I get it running properly.
