Laptop Display Problems.....

I have an HP Omnibook XE3. Recently the display was very dark, so I did some research. What I came up with was a bad lcd power inverter. It seemed easy enough to change, so I ordered one. It came, I installed it and it worked perfectly for about a half hour. Now its back to a dark screen.
Could there be a chance that I received a bad inverter? Is there something else causing the inverter to go bad? Should I try installing a second inverter? I appreciate any help you folks might be able to give me, Thanks!

if its back to how it used to be, i would definately get my money back. before you buy another one, try the following:

1) make sure youre screen is on full brightness- most laptops have the ability to darken/lighten the screen. usually it can be done with a "fn" (function) button.
2)when unplugged, some laptops automatically darken their screen to save battery. again, use the fn button to change

those are kinda 'd-oh' suggestions, but im just covering all the software possibilities. if youve already tried those, i would say try another transformer.
good luck!
