Laptop DVD connections

I needed to replace an optical drive in an IBM ThinkPad. I ordered what was supposed to be a compatible drive, however the connection on the back is not the same as what came out of the machine. The new drive fits physically, but the connector doesnt match.
See the photo below. The drive on the bottom is what came out of the machine. Notice it has a pin plate in the center of the connection. The top drive is the replacement and you can see it has no center pin plate.
I've looked for drives with that center pin plate and really cant find any. Are these 2 drives incompatible or is there some adapter that makes the fit. Thanks for your help!

The photo is near-useless. It's so out-of-focus. They look vaguely different. Can you post the model numbers; way more useful?

Sorry, I doubt you're going to find any sort of adapter, and even if you did it would mean that the drive would stick out and you wouldn't be able to fasten it in place properly.

You'll probably just want to order a new drive.
